Several Quebec boxers will have the opportunity to showcase their skills at the Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM) gala on June 15 at the Centre Gervais Auto in Shawinigan, starting with Kim Clavel.
The latter will return to the ring after her triumph over Tamara Elisabet Demarco on May 17 to face Mexican veteran Nora Cardoza (14-6-2, 6 KW) in an eight-round duel in the mid-flyweight category. Clavel (8-0-0, 2 KO) will have in front of her an experienced boxer known for waging wars, particularly during her WBC world championship fight against Japan's Momo Koseki.
However, EOTTM does not seem to be worried about the Quebecer.
"Kim Clavel's popularity and success are skyrocketing, as she never ceases to impress at each of her outings, thanks in particular to her great talent, her physical abilities, her intelligence in the ring and her sense of showmanship. His duel on May 17 was the fight of the evening with a good number of boxing fans. Kim has made exceptional progress since her professional debut and this is extremely promising," said EOTTM Executive Director Antonin Décarie in a statement issued on Wednesday.
In the other clashes before the final between Simon Kean and Dillon Carman, Lexson Mathieu (3-0-0, 3 KW) will cross swords with Mexico's Francisco Rios (13-8-3, 9 KW). Their duel is scheduled for four rounds in the 168 lb. Although he suffered defeat in his two fights in the Belle Province, Rios caused trouble for several up-and-coming boxers.
"Once again, we must recognize the courage of our boxers who will have big challenges in their hands on June 15. At EOTTM, we firmly believe that this type of adversity is essential to an athlete's professional and personal development, since the experience and confidence they gain at each of these stages is essential to prepare them for future world championship fights," said Décarie.
One year after his crushing defeat by K.-O. at the hands of Kean, Canadian Adam Braidwood (13-2, 12 K.-O.) will attempt to regain victory over mixed martial arts veteran Andrew Satterfield (5-2-0, 3 K.-O.). For his part, Andranik Grigoryan (10-0-0, 1 KW) will face Mexico's Jorge Garcia Jimenez (14-2-1, 11 KW) for the vacant NABA title of feather weights.
Introduction to the subject
Spectators will also have the opportunity to witness the professional debut of EOTTM rookie Avery Martin Duval, Canadian champion for four years in a row in the amateur category. "For me, becoming a professional was the goal I had set myself since I started boxing at the age of 11. It was sort of my ultimate goal," he said.
Vincent Thibault (8-0-0, 2 K.-O.), Artur Ziyatdinov (9-0-0, 8 K.-O.), Raphaël Courchesne (6-0-0, 3 K.-O.) and the Trifluvian Kaemy Cloutier (2-0-0, 0 K.-O.) will also take part in the gala.
TVA Sports will broadcast it on June 15.
